Man Sentenced For Killing Mom Over Video Game Volume

98

After an argument over the volume of the video games he was playing, a man from New Hampshire fatally stabbed his mother, receiving a sentence ranging from 40 years to life in prison.

After admitting guilt to second-degree murder and arson in the November death of Linda Tufts, 70, inside their Goffstown home, Thomas Humphrey, 47, was sentenced on Tuesday.

鈥淭he brutality of this crime simply makes it too dangerous not to impose a very lengthy state prison sentence,鈥 Judge William Delker said.

According to a prosecution, Humphrey, who occupied the basement, repeatedly stabbed Tufts before setting her corpse on fire. According to WMUR-TV, the prosecution claimed that the couple had recently gotten into a fight over how loudly he was using the PlayStation she had just given him for his birthday to play video games.

According to the police, they discovered Humphrey with self-inflicted wounds and a knife at the foot of the basement stairs.

Humphrey’s attorney received an email from the Associated Press on Wednesday asking for a statement on his behalf. Humphrey had earlier entered a not-guilty plea to the allegations.
